Saint-Pantaléon, little village of the Luberon nestled between Gordes and Goult

With an surface area of 78 hectares only, the commune of Saint Pantaleon is one of the smallest in France, and the smallest in Vaucluse.

The most remarkable heritage point of the village seems to be St. Pantaleon Chapel and its burial cave, carved into the rock, where the sizes suggest that many children have been put there. The explanation is to be found in the life of St. Pantaleon (Pantaleon of Nicomedia), patron of physicians, childminders and nannies. Both are visible in the North of the village. There is also a Latin inscription, from the Merovingian era, outside on the apse of the chapel.

The village has had some urban development in its closest parts to Gordes, particularly due to the fact that St. Pantaleon is located in the North and is thus relatively close to Gordes.
